Sarah Palin Borderline Baby Boomer?

According to some time charts Sarah Palin is at the tail end of being a baby boomer.

She doesn’t look like a baby boomer!  She doesn’t act like a baby boomer! She doesn’t talk like a baby boomer.  What do you think?

All of us in the baby boomer age range are dealing with many of the same challenges and issues. All of these challenges really start to percolate at about the age of fifty. Where did I put my keys?  My waist grew an inch and I gained five pounds from eating nothing. The kids will be moving out soon?  Should I start a new business?  Should we sell our home?  Lets check out our investments to be sure they are safe.  Do we have enough money to live a very long time? Those are just a few of the questions we are asking ourselves.  We are shedding our bullet proof vests at a rapid rate.

I would venture to say that Sarah is not looking for her keys, though she does drive her own car to work.  She is probably pretty organized and her keys are more than likely in the same designated place. She appears to be in great shape and very trim. She is out jogging at all hours of the night, especially in summer where it stays light for many hours. Retirement is a word that is obviously not part of her vocabulary.    She, like many baby boomers is thinking about going in a new direction. However her direction is not moving to smaller quarters.  Her proposed VP mansion in DC will be large enough to keep her family from running into each other.  Often when retiring, people move to warmer climate, or to be with their grown kids.  Well, the climate will be warmer than Alaska and could actually be quite hot.  And her kids are already with her.

I guess you might say that running for Vice President of the United States could be classified as a career change.

Her kids will be around for a long time, so the empty nest syndrome will not apply. In fact there will be at least one kid around for about eighteen years.  There is also the issue of grown kids returning to the nest, and sometimes

when they return there is a little bundle of joy in their arms. That very realistic possibility lurks in her future.   When does she have time to make lunches for her school age kids?    Perhaps the older ones do the mundane tasks for the younger ones.   It seems a miracle that anyone can govern a state, be a wife and mother, exercise, go to PTA meetings and find a little time for sleep. I assume she cooks her own dinners, since she fired the cook.  Or do you think they fast food it pretty often?

Did she mention her views on birth control? She does advocate abstinence…however this attitude did not work out to well with her oldest daughter.  However we all know that kids have a mind of their own and will do what suits them even if mom is Governor of Alaska.  Maybe if she had become Vice president before her daughter got pregnant she may have had second thoughts.

Perhaps we should ask Sarah Palin to join some of our boomer sites since she almost fits into boomer arena.  She will be pretty busy the next few months campaigning so she may not have time to add comments and blogs on a daily basis. We can always wait a few years and check in with her.

Baby Boomer Genius Tony Robbins

There are many baby boomer geniuses out there, and many more who have accomplished great feats. One who comes to mind and is at the top of the list, and has had tremendous influence on so many of us.  His name is Anthony Robbins. He created an empire with an idea.  However his idea is so powerful that it has affected millions of people.  And of course the idea has many facets, and has developed with our changing times.  Human behavior has been a popular topic for many years.  Norman Vincent Peale had a simple strategy for the power of positive thinking.  It was pretty simple at the time, but has become far more complicated as time has progressed. It is compared to how lives have also become more complicated.  For example televisions that used to just have on and off buttons…Well you know the rest of  the story.

I personally became acquainted with his teachings about eighteen years ago, when his remarkable journey was destined for tremendous success.  After reading about his dark times and seeing what he accomplished afterwards was of great inspiration.   He had gained a lot of weight, difficulty paying his bills and not at all happy with his life.  It is said that he had to wash his dishes in his bathtub.  However, this situation did not last long.   It is proof that anyone can make radical changes in life at any point, no matter what the circumstances are.  People tend to get stuck and feel that the situation they are in will never change.  So the self pity grows by leaps and bounds not leaving much room for developing new and creative ways to improve and enjoy life.

To my knowledge, he does not possess any advanced degrees but studied voraciously on his own.  He always had great insight into people’s psyche and what needed to be done to solve enormous problems.  There is also proof in life that we can achieve and accomplish great feats and have many of the things we want with a passionate dream.  However it is not enough to  just want and dream about something, but the commitment has to be so great that you live with your dream 24/7.

In his books and tapes there are many examples, exercises and methods for achieving these goals.  Just when you think everything has been said and every guru has had his day something new emerges.  It proves there is always room for one more great idea.

Anthony Robbins has changed many people’s lives, but only by people who were willing to follow his teachings and stick with them.  How many times have you gone to a seminar and came out a “changed person”, only to lapse back into old habits in a few weeks.  It is a daily commitment and effort to create these changes in life.

Robbins is a man who practices what he preaches, and is blessed with untiring energy and enthusiasm.  Not only has he created a great empire, but has given back in so many ways.   Of course it does help that he is tall, handsome and dynamic.  He is on the end of the baby boomer ladder, but we can proudly call him one of us.
